⋆‧°π²ּπ’ MUSIC + MEMORY ⋆‧°π²ּπ’
Most of my music memory revolves around my childhood--songs tied to moments that pull me back through years of nostalgia. But music hasn't only been about remembering the past; it's also been an escape during difficult moments in my my life, shaping who I am both as a person and as a singer. There were times when music felt like it found me, helping me understand myself in ways words couldn't. It became my therapy.
With music, songs from my past each are tied to a moment, an emotion, or a chapter of my life. Whether it helped me escape reality or face it head on, music has always been there, preserving my memories. Here are some examples. ♡♡♡
1. When I was a little girl, I was completely obsessed with the Disney movie Enchanted. I can't even remember the first time I watched it--all I can remember is it being played over and over and over again. It got to a point where I memorized most of the script and would act out the scenes myself in my princess dresses. I fell in love with everything: the talking animals (especially Pip), dancing, the costumes, and the animated opening before Giselle was sent into the real world. Everything about the movie felt magical, with music being the core memory. Through Enchanted, I experienced so many emotions at a young age-- the idea of true love, the sadness of almost losing someone you care about, and hope. My favorite song from the movie is"That's How you know." The choreography, the scene transitions, and the way people of all ages came together to express love looked so freeing and fun. Every time I hear it, I can’t help but sing along.
why it surprised me was quite honestly sad. Stereotypes had conditioned me to believe that certain sounds didn’t belong to people who looked like me. She showed me that music isn’t owned by one genre, one image, or one group of people. “Pain” became my awakening—a moment of realization that I didn’t have to fit into anyone else’s expectations. Now, the song is not more so a sad song, but it was a realization of the artist herself that I was just like her.
Cydni, I love your blog post. Not only the memories that the songs bring back but the meanings behind the memoires. I love how you were able to connect with the first two songs on a deeper level. Especially your second song. I think it is so cool that you were able to find music and an artist that helped you see that you didn't have to fit into anyone's mold! Also I love that you included your last song because this is a song that obviously I have memories with too and I too always thought it was a wild song.
ReplyDeleteHi Cydni, I love you diversity in music here. I also really like the Enchanted movie, and I think your choice in song is great. I really enjoyed reading about your story of discovery using music in 2020. I think it was a rough time for all of us in during COVID, but we all went through something different. However, like seeing all the different routes everyone went down. Finally, I actually never heart the Grandma got run over by a reindeer until I was way older!
ReplyDeleteHey Cydni, You definitely have a wide variety of music and it was interesting to listen to “That’s how you know” again as that was a movie that played on repeat for my childhood. I would also be quite terrified if my grandmother got ran over by a reindeer considering I grew up around her most of my childhood. Such a great blog post!
ReplyDeleteWhat's up Cydni?! Girl, PinkPantheress is one of my to goes! I remember discovering her in 2022 and her music has a way of healing and relating to us, especially during tough times. And also, I can see why you would get traumatized by that last song. Why do they be telling kids about such tragic things happening? Grandma got ran over by a reindeer? Oh, come on now.
ReplyDeleteWassup Cydni! I never really listened to PinkPantheress other than that one song Boys a liar. That song Pain kind of good, I might add that to my playlist. I'm glad music has helped you along the way because its a lot good in music. That last video will always be a good christmas song.

ReplyDeleteHey Cydni. One of the things I like about these blog posts is that they introduce me to new music and artists. Yours has introduced me to Pink Pantheress. I will definitely be listening to her more. Also, I love the contrast of your other two choices with "Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer". I had a very different experience with that song though; I liked it. I can, however, relate to having a very strong reaction to something that to most people is not a big deal, so that hit home lol.
